Italo-Norman Armor Helmet, around 1170 AD Our Italo-Norman helmet is an example from 1170AD Around 1030AD the Normans directed their attention to the Mediterranean regions. As a product of decades and many battles they conquered parts of South Europe and settled in South Italy and Sicily. Around the end of the 12th Century weapons and armour of the Normans had intergrated with those used in southern Europe. This helmet is modeled on a wall painting in the church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Spoleto, Italy, painted around 1170AD. This kind of helmet was usually worn together with a chain mail coif. The helmet is made of 1.6mm sheet steel and has a comfortable leather liner which includes a chin strap.
