Description
The Roman army did not wear Imperial-type Weisenau helmets (named for the place in Germany where they were found) until the late Republic. The typical legionary’s helmet had a steadily sloping neck guard and is equipped with extremely wide cheek pieces Narrower cheek pieces – as seen in modern representations – are historically inaccurate and leave too much face unprotected. The cross bar firmly riveted to the the scull for deflecting cuts and the crest that makes the helmets of ranking officers distinctive are typical Weisenau helmet features. Our Roman Weisenau helmet is made of 18 gauge brass and lined with genuine leather on the inside. The transverse crest is the sign of a centurion – this one is made of genuine horsehair dyed bright red. MANUFACTURED & SOLD BY NAUTICALMART INC.
